Description:

Glycine max, commonly known as soybean, is one of the top ten global crops. It originated in Southeast Asia and is now a major crop in the Americas and China. Soybean seeds are rich in protein and oils and it is a significant plant based protein food source.

Soybean is a member of the Leguminosae and is able to fix atmospheric nitrogen into the soil. It has an ancient polyploid and has a large genome with many of the genes clustered at the chromosome ends.
